About School Counselling

The Role of the Counsellor

  • Short Term Counselling
    • Solution-focused approach
    • 3-5 sessions with the goal being educational. ie. getting back into the classroom, overcoming a challenge, etc.
    • Build skills and strategies for students that improve school engagement
    • Provide a space for social-emotional development
  • Triage Counselling support for students in crisis
  • Do not provide long-term intensive counselling support

Referring to Other Resources

School Counselling as stated above is short-term and school-focused.

If your child needs extensive counselling we will often refer to community resources such as:

  • The Foundry
  • Child and Youth Mental Health
  • Medical Doctor, Psychologist, Psychiatrist, or individual counselling
